The Life of an Aige Old Soul has moved!

Hello, All!

The Life of an Aige Old Soul has moved!

Why, you may ask?

I want to start fresh—completely fresh! I’ve been interning at the Virginia Film Office for the last four months and the work involved with this internship has thrown my blogging a little off track. I want to start over, and I also want this “new” blog to really reflect where I am in my life right now. I love posting on The Life of an Aige Old Soul—I’ve enjoyed coming up with content for the segments—Black Music Month, Aige Old Radio, etc.—but it’s always been all over the place because the last few years of my life have been nothing more than phases of transitions—in college, out of college for the holidays, out of college indefinitely/graduating, looking for a job, finding a job, having to quit that job, depressed because I couldn’t find a job, so on and so forth.

Now, as the VFO internship draws to a close, I can now say that for the most part, I am “stable”—I am now pursuing my career goals without interference. I believe that this stability will allow me the freedom to blog how I want. Aige Old Radio (monthly) and Mr. Sali's Reviews (bi-weekly) will be the only "scheduled" segments. Otherwise, I will post when I can—whenever I come across a great historical find, I will share it with you. If I listen to a great album, I will share it without you. Will it be a review? Maybe, maybe not—but you will absolutely know about it. That’s the kind of blog I’ve always wanted The Life of an Aige Old Soul to be.

I hope to see you guys on the new Life of an Aige Old Soul.
Best Regards,
Adrienne (aka “Aige”)

Just a few things to share! :)

I've got just a few things I want to share with you guys! First of all, I hope you all have been having a wonderful 2015 so far! I've been so impersonal these last few months, but I've just been getting my life together that's all--I wouldn't wish this post-college life on anyone! But anywho...

Secondly, I hope you guys have been visiting The Life of an Aige Old Soul on Tumblr! I've been sharing some really great finds on there! Screenshots of newspaper and magazine articles, rare photos, music, and more! Go on and mosey on over there (*waves you over like a Southern auntie). I've got to figure out how to add a subscribe box or something.

Third, I recently posted a pre-recorded episode of Aige Old Radio. It's Spring-themed. I'm hoping to do a live one at the very beginning of May! Click here for the Spring episode.

Fourthly (is that a word?), I've just (literally JUST) created a Facebook page for The Life of an Aige Old Soul. Click here to drop by!

And finally...

I've just opened an EBay store (simply titled "Aige Old Store"). For now, I'm just selling things I'd accumulated during my college years (and entire life, to be honest), but in the near future (near as in summer), I hope to start selling some awesome thrift store finds! Click here to visit the Aige Old Store!

That's all for now! Thank you guys for your constant love and support!

Love,
Adrienne (aka "Aige")

What's New in 2015?

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season and wish for you a very happy, healthy, and prosperous 2015!

Here's what's new for The Life of an Aige Old Soul in 2015:

More reviews, basically! More book reviews, music reviews, and movie reviews, of course. I've also got plans for a new monthly (maybe bi-weekly) segment as well! I'm doing a little research on it first before I give out all the details :)

In the meantime, check out The Music of the Calloways and Aige Old Christmas 2014 on Spreaker!

Get Glam for the Holidays! (Vintage Black Glam, That Is!)

Are you still looking for the perfect gift for someone for Christmas?

Well, if you've got a friend or a family member who loves just about anything vintage, glamorous, historic, and/or educational, then Nichelle Gainer's Vintage Black Glamour book would make the perfect gift!

Vintage Black Glamour includes photos of classic Black entertainers that Ms. Gainer has shared on her blog of the same name for the past few years. Gracing the cover is none other than "Mother Eartha", Ms. Eartha Kitt. Also included are rare images of icons like Josephine Baker and Dorothy Dandridge, and of unknown beauties like these four friends posing on a beach!

Vintage Black Glamour also includes photos of the beautiful woman who ignited this journey for Ms. Gainer, her aunt, Margaret Tynes, an opera and jazz singer who's been hailed all over the world for her artistry.

Visit the Vintage Black Glamour book's official website here to pre-order (your loved one may have to wait a bit because the first print run has already sold out!!!) a copy today!

Aige Old Christmas Music On Tumblr!

Want to listen to uninterrupted Christmas music while you do the dishes or some online shopping?

Mosey on over to The Life of an Aige Old Soul on Tumblr to listen to my Hypster playlist of Christmas music classics! The playlist consists of 61 songs, but according to Hypster, some songs may get skipped "due to the content owner's lack of meeting YouTube Terms and Conditions".

Click here to navigate to the Tumblr page and be prepared to feast your ears on music performed by legendary artists like Ella Fitzgerald, Bing Crosby, The Ronettes, Otis Redding, and of course, my favorite person to listen to during the holidays, Nat "King" Cole.

Happy Holidays!!!

And don't forget!!!

On Sunday, December 21st at 7:30PM EST, a LIVE episode of Aige Old Radio (featuring music by Blanche and Cab Calloway) will air, and on Christmas Eve at 10:30PM EST, another LIVE episode will air. I hope to "see" you there!!!

Follow me on Twitter!

These days, my Tumblr mainly consists of retweets, but this season, I will be live tweeting Scandal, How to Get Away With Murder, Sleepy Hollow, Gotham, and depending on how my "pending" work schedule pans out, I will also be "live tweeting" some of my favorite classic television shows as they air on Antenna TV and MeTV in the morning and afternoon (Cable-Less Folks Unite).

Will you join me? :)

Like the new look?

These changes have been made in preparation for my "post-undergraduate life". The plan is to finally make this blog into the blog I originally intended it to be--a journal pertaining to my interests in vintage things, classic people, and other aspects of history.

What's Next?

Blogging will begin again in August (very soon)!

I've created a Tumblr for this blog (link in sidebar). I've also provided links to my Twitter and Spreaker pages.

Aige Old Radio will return in October.

I look forward to starting again! :)

Summer Segment for My Aige Old Soul?

I know. I'm supposed to be on a hiatus, but this weekend, I was having a good old time listening to Motown music, but as I listened to the music, I felt the urge to listen to it with others and to even have a conversation about. Enter the purpose of this post...

A good blogger friend of mine currently hosts a music night on a website called Watch2Gether. This is a website where people come together into a room (it's like a chat room) and they watch YouTube videos together. As someone who loves music and classic entertainment and loves loving classic entertainers, I'd like to host something similar with any and everyone reading this post.

But first, I would like your feedback on this!

(On Survey Monkey)

Feel free to leave comments as well!

Have a great week everyone--let me know what you think about this!

Summer Hiatus

Hello everyone, it's "Aige" (of course)

I first want to let you all know (if I haven't already) that I am currently enrolled in summer classes at my university--it's my last semester in college, woop woop! However, as you may know, summer school=longer hours, assignments closer together--things like that. I thought I would be able to manage My Aige Old Soul, POC in Classic Film, and other blogs this summer, but...I can't.

So, it is with deep regret that I inform you all that starting next week, I will be taking a hiatus from both of my Blogspot blogs--and this includes Aige Old Radio.

Again, this "hiatus" will start next week--June 9th to be exact--and I will resume blogging on August 18th. Remaining "Black Music Month" posts will be scheduled to post every day during the last week of this month.

I hope you all have a splendid summer and hopefully, the next time you hear (read) from me, I will be the holder of a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications and Film Studies (and a job).

:)

Toodles!

Aige Old Radio: Valentine's Day!

Aige Old Radio will finally be "back" this month--next week, actually! Be prepared for an all-new and live broadcast on Valentine's Day (next Friday).

Changes have been made to Aige Old Radio. It will no longer  be a weekly program (my schedule will not permit me to keep up with it every week). Instead, episodes will air once a month (especially on significant holidays) and the time range has been expanded, as well! I will begin playing music recorded/released during the 1920s, 1930s, 1940s, and the first half of the 1950s (including 1955).

So, tune in on Valentine's Day at 7:30PM EST for a live episode of Aige Old Radio!

Vintage Black Glamour Book Coming Soon!

I've been inspired by many-a-people on the internet--Youtubers, website administrators, bloggers, etc. Among these inspirations is Ms. Nichelle Gainer, owner and moderator of the popular site, Vintage Black Glamour.

I am happy to help spread the news that a Vintage Black Glamour book is on the horizon. Please visit the official website: vintageblackglamourbook.com to learn more about the book. I also encourage you to REGISTER to stay updated on news about this project.

Congratulations Ms. Gainer, I cannot wait to get my hands on your book!

Aige Old Radio: Update!

Thanks so much to everyone who tuned in yesterday morning and evening or listened a little later! I had so much fun recording and can't wait to do it again! As promised in the broadcasts, I will definitely have it all together by next Sunday!

In the meantime, here are some things to know:

Times & Day

For now, I have no intention of changing up the times or day of recording.

Episodes will continue to air LIVE twice every Sunday:

10:30AM--11AM
and
7:30PM--8:00PM

Archived Episodes

Episodes will be available on Spreaker until I run out of "space", but I definitely will be archiving every episode as posts on My Aige Old Soul--they will include the AM and PM broadcasts, song titles, song information, and links to artists' biographies and will become available every Thursday at 9AM (EST).

Check out yesterday's episodes:

Five More Days!

We've got five more days before the premiere of Aige Old Radio!

However, I'm back in school now. Thankfully and gratefully, I've been able to acquire an internship and just may receive a part-time job, so I still have yet to know exactly what my schedule will be like for the remainder of this year (this semester). With that said, I still have plans to broadcast live this coming Sunday, but my schedule after that is still a little iffy. Dates and times are subject to change--I may not even be able to have a "set" date and time!

But stay tuned, subscribe to the mailing list to stay on the lookout for more information.

Looking forward to Sunday!

Aige Old Radio

I'm excited to share my next "venture" with you all--it's called "Aige Old Radio!"

(All information updated 5/31/2015)

Aige Old Radio is a 30-minute Spreaker broadcast hosted by me (Aige)! It will feature music that was released between the 1920s and early 1960s.

Air Dates/Times

Episodes air once a month every month during the September-May months. They typically air on or around holidays, so times will vary (for example, Christmas episodes usually air on Christmas Eve at 11:30PM EST).

What to Expect

As stated above, Aige Old Radio features music that was released during the 1920s, 30s, 40s, 50s, and early 1960s. However, The Internet Archive will be my primary source for acquiring music, because everything on that site is believed to be in the Public Domain. I believe that this will not only be safer--in terms of copyright laws and things like that--but it also creates the opportunity to share some unsung gems!

I hope you all tune in to Aige Old Radio!

(Link to Aige Old Radio on Spreaker)

All episodes will be archived here, on The Life of an Aige Old Soul. You can find them by clicking 'Aige Old Radio' in the "Segments" section of the side bar.

My Weekend: Forbidden Hollywood Collection (Volume One)

What are you doing this weekend? Me, well I'm about to sit back and start watching this DVD collection: Forbidden Hollywood Collection (Volume One) which contains three Pre-Code Era films: Waterloo Bridge (1931), Red-Headed Woman (1932), and Baby Face (1933).

I'd borrowed this collection from the library before, but was only able to watch Red-Headed Woman--a movie I really enjoyed. Now, I can't wait to re-watch that and then watch the other two.

I will be posting reviews of these movies--if not this weekend, sometime during the week.

Enjoy your weekend everyone!
