Mr. Sali's Reviews (#67)

This week on Wherever I Look, Amari reviewed the new ABC sitcom, Cristela:

"I don't want to say that this show is refreshing, but at the same time it is hard to deny how interesting this show because Cristela, and her family, don't treat being Mexican as something to be swept under the rug nor treat it as the elephant in the room. Her culture, and heritage, is on full display by speaking Spanish, her mother Natalia speaking about the life she had before immigrating, and just this general sense that we are going to get a less heavy-handed approach than Black-ish when it comes to Cristela's culture." 1. I don't know why it won't let me read the whole thing but I have to check this show out. I've seen Black-ish and while it isn't horrible. It is a bit too heavy-handed and sometimes irritating! Like don't just blurt things out build up to them work them into the plot a little more conspicuously.
