I've mentioned a few times on My Aige Old Soul that I love artists/art that pushes the envelope. Millie Jackson is definitely one of those artists. She's a woman in her own lane--unparalleled in her style of performance and entertainment.
I mean, just look at this...
Who does this? Millie Jackson does, that's who.
Makeup goals.
Very 80s.
One of her more reserved covers.

Now, let's acknowledge some of the lady's music, shall we?
************
"(If Loving You Is Wrong) I Don't Want to Be Right"
Millie Jackson recorded her soulful rendition of this song for her 1974 album, Caught Up. She received two Grammy nominations for her performance.
"A Child of God (It's Hard to Believe)"
This daring song was the first single from Millie's self-titled debut album, released in 1972. It peaked at #22 on the U.S. Soul chart.
"It Hurts So Good"
Watch Ms. Millie perform her hit rendition of "It Hurts So Good" (from the 1973 album of the same name) on an episode of Soul Train. Her recording was also featured in 1973's Cleopatra Jones.
"If You're Not Back in Love By Monday"
You've GOT to listen to Ms. Millie's touching rendition of Merle Haggard's popular song (originally titled "If We're Not Back in Love By Monday"). This was recorded for Feelin' Bitchy (1977) and released as a single the same year.
"I Feel Like Walkin' in the Rain"
Let's mosey on into the 80s with a single from Millie's 1983 album...*averts eyes* E.S.P. (Extra Sexual Persuasion). A different decade, a different sound, but that same soulful voice.
"Hot! Wild! Unrestricted! Crazy Love"
This song is such an 80s R&B groove. It actually appeared on two of Millie's albums--first on An Imitation of Love (1986) and then on the album with "one of the worst covers ever"--Back to the S**t! (1989).

Millie Jackson has recorded over twenty studio albums, giving us a plethora of great music to listen to. She's also done radio and even wrote, produced, and starred in Young Man, Older Woman, a touring stage play based on an album of the same name.
