Sister Rosetta Tharpe, The Dependable Boys, and the Sam Price Trio recorded this gospel favorite on December 2, 1948. [Internet Archive]

Big Joe Turner recorded this boogie-woogie piano hit in 1947, according to the Internet Archive.


5. "Uncle Remus Said"

James Baskett & The Pied Pipers recorded this far-from-cringeworthy song in 1946 for the Song of the South (released that same year). [songofthesouth.net] [Internet Archive]


6. "Sooner or Later"

June Hutton recorded this song in 1946, according to the Internet Archive.

According to the Internet Archive, the Coleman Hawkins Swing Four recorded this rendition of "Get Happy" on December 23, 1943.


7. "Dude Ranch Serenade"

This song, sung by Virginia O'Brien, was recorded (or released) on December 27, 1924, according to the Internet Archive.


8. "Cow Cow Boogie"

Dorothy Dandridge recorded this song for the soundie of the same name, released in 1942. [IMDb]

Here is one of many recordings of Lionel Hampton's biggest hit (a personal favorite). It is my guess that this is the May 26, 1942 recording. [University of Idaho]


2. "Slipped Disc"

According to the Internet Archive, the Benny Goodman Sextet recorded this number in 1945.

3. "Careless Love"

Harry Levine's Dixieland Octet recorded this jazzy tune with Lena Horne in 1941. [Internet Archive]

(I couldn't find any information on Harry Levine or his Dixieland Octet (or band) in my Google Search. However, here is a Dailymotion link to some footage of the band performing.)


4. "Boogie Woogie"

Count Basie and His Orchestra recorded this jolly (and live) tune in 1942. [Internet Archive]


5. "Do You Care"

According to the Internet Archive, The Sam Donahue Orchestra (with Irene Daye) recorded this song on May 20, 1941.

6. "My Future Just Passed"

Also, according to the Internet Archive, Margaret Whiting recorded this song in 1940.


7. "My Happiness"

Jon and Sondra Steele recorded this beautiful, harmonious tune in 1948. [Internet Archive]

(I couldn't find any information on Jon and Sondra Steele in my Google search.)


8. "Swing for My Supper" 

Here is Dottie D again, singing "Swing for My Supper", also for a soundie. I believe this was recorded and/or released in 1941. [Weird Wild Realm lists the soundie as being released in 1941]

9. "Thru' for the Night"

According to (once again) the Internet Archive, Cozy Cole's All-Stars recorded this song on February 22, 1944. 

(The "all-stars" would include Cozy Cole on drums, Earl "Fatha" Hines on piano, Coleman Hawkins on tenor sax, Trummy Young on trombone, Joe Thomas on trumpet, Billy Taylor on bass, and Teddy Walters on guitar.)

(I couldn't find any information on Teddy Walters in my Google Search. However, one search results shows that he was the son of drummer and bandleader, Danny Alvin.)
