"Cozy Kinda Night"
This past Sunday, I played a little bit of what some might call "cuddle music". You can hear the sounds of Billie Holiday, the Ink Spots, Dinah Washington, and more in this broadcast...
1. "At Our Fireplace"
This smooth and soothing number was recorded by Deek Watson and His Brown Dots in 1949. [Source]

2. "Knock Me a Kiss"
I've previously played the studio recording of the Erskine Hawkins Orchestra and Ida James' rendition of "Knock Me a Kiss", but check out this LIVE recording (which is 1000x better, in my opinion). This was actually a Command Performance during World War II. [Source]
Neither the announcer or the poster of this song on the Internet Archive state if Ida is performing alongside the Erskine Hawkins Orchestra.
3. "I Must Have That Man"
Here is "Lady Day" with the Teddy Wilson Orchestra performing one of her more lighter songs. According to Jazz (.com), this song was recorded in New York on January 25, 1937.
4. "I Carry the Torch for You"
The late, great Maxine Sullivan recorded this song on November 24, 1944. [Source]
From Swing Music (.net), here is Maxine Sullivan. |
5. "If I Could Be With You (One Hour Tonight)"
Count Basie and his Orchestra recorded a rendition of this James P. Johnson song with Helen Humes on March 19, 1939. [Source]
6. "Love Somebody"
Doris Day and Buddy Clark recorded this pop standard on November 21, 1947. [Source]

7. "It's Too Soon to Know"
One of my favorite singers, Ms. Dinah Washington recorded this lovely tune in 1948. [Source]
8. "Address Unknown"
The Ink Spots recorded this little number on August 17, 1939. [Source]
From The Ink Spots' official website, here is the lineup during 1939. |
9. "Creole Love Call"
The Duke Ellington Orchestra originally recorded his rendition of this jazz standard with Adelaide Hall on October 26, 1927 (Kay Davis would reprise these vocals in 1944, being the only other vocalist Duke Ellington allowed to do such). [Source] [Source]
